Remarks - Meeting with Premier Li - Beijing - People's Republic of China

PREMIER LI QIANG, PREMIER OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC: Honourable Anthony Albanese, Prime Minister of Australia.

It's a great pleasure for me to host you in Beijing.

Let me begin by giving you another warm welcome to China.

In the last two months, we had opportunities to meet and discuss with each other.

I remember our first meeting was in Jakarta, and then it Delhi.

The day before yesterday, we met in Shanghai. And now, in Beijing.

Why building on 50 years of diplomacy is so important

From Bega and Bundaberg to Beijing, and the Snowy Mountains and South West Sydney to Shanghai.

I was proud to see our iconic cheese, ginger beer, spirits and cereals alongside products more than 250 Aussie businesses are showcasing to the 350,000 visitors to the world's largest trade event at the China International Import Expo.

From Bulla ice cream made in regional Victoria, lobster from Geraldton in WA, Sanitarium products from the NSW Central Coast and Sydney Beer brewed in Surry Hills, Chinese consumers have an insatiable appetite for our premium Aussie products.

Press Conference - Beijing - People's Republic of China

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: We've just concluded two very successful meetings. Firstly, I met with Chairman Zhao, the equivalent of our Speaker in the National People's Congress. That was an important meeting to discuss the bilateral relationship, and to discuss future cooperation, including exchanges between representative groups between our two countries. We spoke about the importance of continuing to have dialogue. And it was a constructive discussion. We then met with President Xi.

Press Conference - Beijing - People's Republic of China

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Well, it is wonderful to be here in Beijing following a very successful visit in Shanghai. The trade fair yesterday was a real highlight. Some 250 Australian businesses. What it shows is that trade is about Australian jobs. And that's what my Government is about. A Government has created, on our watch, over half a million jobs in under our first half of the term. More jobs created in our first term already than any previous new government in Australia's history since Federation.

Meeting with President Xi Jinping

PRESIDENT XI JINPING, PRESIDENT OF THE PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF CHINA: Prime Minister, it's so nice to welcome you to Beijing.

And the Ministers and other members of the Australian delegation.

Before taking office you visited China many times.

After taking office, you've been working to stabilise and improve relations with China.

This visit shows the great importance you attach to relations with China.

Mr Prime Minister, your visit this time is of double significance.

Opening session of the China International Import Expo

Premier of the People’s Republic of China, Your Excellency Li Qiang.

Excellencies,

Distinguished Guests,

Ladies and gentlemen.

It is a great pleasure to be with you at the China International Import Expo today.

This is my seventh visit to the People's Republic of China, but my first as Prime Minister of Australia.

And it is wonderful to be back here in this extraordinarily beautiful global city of Shanghai.

Remarks - Shanghai

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: All Australians' thoughts are with the family, friends, and all who know the brave firefighters who've lost their lives as a result of the fatal air accident that occurred in North Queensland. We know that people who fight fires and stand up in emergency services risk their lives each and every day to assist their fellow Australians and to assist their communities. And today, our hearts go out to them.

Press conference - Darwin
