ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: I do want to begin by congratulating President Widodo on hosting a very successful G20 meeting. Countries, the 20 largest economies in the world, have come together at a difficult time to issue a declaration moving forward to meet the challenges which are before us. This G20 took place post-COVID and with the COVID recovery being a real focus, with the themes of 'Recovering Stronger'. It also took place with inflationary pressure being global, energy security issues, and also food security.

Australia is contributing $50 million to the Pandemic Fund—a new global Financial Intermediary Fund to improve future pandemic prevention, preparedness and response.

The Pandemic Fund is the culmination of global efforts to ensure the world learns lessons from COVID-19.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Good afternoon. I was delighted to meet with President Biden here at the East Asia Summit today. We had a very constructive bilateral meeting with the President and his key national security and foreign affairs advisors, people I've developed quite a strong relationship with, some of them over a long period of time. Since I've been Prime Minister I've had the opportunity to meet with President Biden in Tokyo, in Madrid, in London and now here in Phnom Penh. We had a very constructive discussion. We discussed AUKUS.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Well it's wonderful to be back in Indonesia again for my second visit as Prime Minister. And I had very fruitful discussions with President Widodo in Phnom Penh and I'm looking forward to our bilateral meeting this afternoon. It's such a warm welcome here from our Indonesian friends, and I thank the Tourism Minister and the Governor of Bali for that warm welcome for myself, but really, myself as a representative of Australia.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Thank you very much. Well, Mr President, it is wonderful to be here on my second visit as Prime Minister of Australia, but my seventh actual visit to Indonesia. I’m very pleased that my Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, who has just brought down our first Budget of the new Government has been able to join us here.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Well, it's good to be joined here at the B20, prior to the G20 commencing tomorrow. And I'm joined by the Treasurer, Jim Chalmers, who's been here since Saturday, participating in the economic discussions in the lead-up to the G20, and Jennifer Westacott, the Head of the Business Council of Australia. Earlier today, I had a constructive bilateral meeting with President Widodo. I thank him for hosting us at the G20.

Today I met China’s President Xi Jinping in the margins of the G20 Summit Meeting.

This was another important step towards the stabilisation of the Australia-China relationship. 

China is a major power with global interests and it was valuable to exchange views on challenges to international peace and security, including Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

We also discussed bilateral, trade, consular and human rights issues, and looked forward to the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations in December.

This weekend Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is attending the 2^nd Annual ASEAN-Australia Summit and the 17^th East Asian Summit (EAS) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.

The Prime Minister’s attendance at the summits demonstrates the Government’s commitment to deepening our engagement with Southeast Asia and addressing the shared challenges facing our region. 

As part of the Albanese Government’s efforts to deepen Australia’s economic engagement with our region, the Prime Minister, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Minister for Trade and Tourism today announce Mr Nicholas Moore as Special Envoy for Southeast Asia.

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Can I kick off, Minister, by saying it is wonderful to have you in our part of the world. It was my great honour to meet you in Kyiv with President Zelenskyy and to convey our support for what is a courageous struggle of the Ukrainian people in standing up for your national sovereignty. But in doing so, standing up for the international rule of law as well. Since we met, you would know that we have increased our support for Ukraine up to now some $655 million, $475 million dollars of that being military assistance.
