ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Welcome to the first ever Federal Cabinet meeting in the Pilbara. It's a commitment that I made during the election campaign along with other commitments I've made here in Western Australia. And my Government is determined to deliver each and everyone of them. I said I'd visit the West 10 times a year. This is my 9th visit in nine months, so I have three month to go to make that one extra visit. I'll be back here, by the way, in March and April. So, we'll exceed that target.
This year our focus as a government is on providing stability, confidence and security.
Greater security in the economy.
In energy and industry and jobs and wages.
Greater security in Medicare and child care and aged care.
In education and skills and housing.
In building and delivering the infrastructure and services Australians rely on.
And in defence and national security, investing in our sovereignty, strengthening Australia’s relationships in the region and securing our place in the world.
ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Welcome to Bayswater. We're here in the seat of Aston that's been neglected by its local member for a long period of time. And I'm here to say no more, because Mary Doyle is going to make a fantastic Member of Parliament representing Aston. Now, no government has won a seat off an opposition in a by-election for 100 years. But Mary Doyle can make history because Mary Doyle has what it takes.
LAUREL EDWARDS, HOST: Here at 4BC we are the home of the Olympics. We're very, very excited about that, for in nine years’ time when it will be held right here in Brisbane. And the big boss, he's put up some money for this and we're very excited, a massive announcement from the Federal Government today. We've got the man himself, our Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese, good morning.
With the eyes of the world on Brisbane, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk are delivering the important infrastructure that will be at the heart of the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games and leave an enduring Games legacy.
The Queensland Government will fund the $2.7 billion redevelopment of the Gabba while the Federal Government will provide $2.5 billion for the Brisbane Arena development. Sixteen new or upgraded venues will receive close to $1.87 billion in co-funding on a 50/50 basis between the two governments.
ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: This is a great day for Brisbane, a great day for Queensland, but a great day for Australia as well. This agreement of $7 billion shows what governments can do when they work together. And I've been working so closely with Annastacia and her team to get this done. When there was a change of government, it was very clear that there hadn't been any money actually allocated in the budget for federal infrastructure support for the Games here in Queensland.
ANTHONY ALBANESE PRIME MINISTER: Minister, can I welcome you, very much, back to Australia. You're a regular visitor here. And I, of course, am looking forward to being in India in just a few weeks' time now for the bilateral visit. And I thank Prime Minister Modi for the invitation. And then, of course, I will welcome the Quad Leaders meeting, including Prime Minister Modi, that we will be hosting here in just a short period of time in the first half of the year. And then, of course, there will be another visit for the G20 in the second half of the year.
