Television interview - ABC Afternoon Briefing

GREG JENNETT, HOST: Prime Minister, welcome back to the program. Why don't we start with Barnaby Joyce? We heard your admonition of him and Peter Dutton earlier in the day over Mr Joyce's remarks about ballots being a bullet and a ballot box being a magazine. Barnaby Joyce has apologised, Peter Dutton says it is appropriate that he did that. So having distanced himself from it, shouldn't that be the end of it?

Television interview - Sky News Newsday

KIERAN GILBERT, HOST: Prime Minister, thanks very much for your time. In your reshuffle announced yesterday, you even had a Special Envoy for Social Cohesion announced, today we see this quote from Barnaby Joyce. He was at a rally against offshore wind proposals, and he said, I'll quote it to you and get your reaction. He said, ‘The bullet you have is that little piece of paper in that magazine called the voting box. Get ready to load that magazine. Goodbye Chris, goodbye Stephen, goodbye Albo’. What do you make of that language?

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Welcome everybody, and welcome to some of the new faces who are here around the Cabinet Room of our Government. It's an incredible privilege to be a Member of Parliament, to have the great honour of being in government elevates that, because that's how you can actually make change. And to serve in the Executive of the Government is an incredible honour, and I know that all of you won't take it for granted and will work each and every day. Our priority is, of course, cost of living relief.

Joint statement by the Prime Ministers of Australia, Canada and New Zealand

Australia, Canada and New Zealand today issued the following statement on the need for an urgent ceasefire in Gaza and the risk of expanded conflict between Hizballah and Israel.

The situation in Gaza is catastrophic. The human suffering is unacceptable. It cannot continue.

We remain unequivocal in our condemnation of Hamas for the atrocities of October 7 and ongoing acts of terror. Hamas must lay down its arms and release all hostages. We see no role for Hamas in the future governance of Gaza.

Press conference - Sydney

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: My government has always been focused on tackling the challenges of the here and now in a way that builds for the long term. Helping people with cost of living pressures while investing in making our future here in Australia as a theme of the last budget, but it's a theme of the last two and a bit years as well. We do this as a united team through cabinet government.

Press conference - Cairns

ANTHONY ALBANESE, PRIME MINISTER: Today President Biden has made the difficult decision to not seek re-election at the Presidential election that will be held in November. As he's done throughout his entire time in public life, he has acted in what he considers to be the best interests of the United States of America. He is someone who, in January, will be able to retire from public life with an extraordinary record. It was one of my first events as Prime Minister, was to travel to the Quad meeting, that was held in Tokyo within days of my election in May of 2022.
